School-Based DBT: A Social-Emotional Toolkit for Students and Staff

PUBLISHED ON:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy with adolescents (DBT-A), DBT for adolescents designed by Alec Miller, Jill Rathus & Marsha Linehan, is an evidence-based outpatient intervention originally designed for emotionally and behaviorally dysregulated youth some of whom self-harm. Dr. Miller and his colleagues have since adapted DBT for school-based settings ranging from 1) teaching a broad range of life skills to students in general education classroom settings (i.e. Universal Classroom-DBT), to 2) applying comprehensive DBT in schools in a more targeted fashion to students showing signs and symptoms of distress. Check out this video by Science Animated on YouTube, narrated by Dr. Alec Miller himself to learn more about how this innovative intervention works!
